I’m a painter currently living in Tweed, Ontario , and previously in  South West Florida and Corner Brook, Newfoundland.  My hope is to continue to paint and live in exotic locations, where my backyard will be the imagination for a new canvas.  Working from nature and on locale teaches you everything you need to know about painting; colour, form, texture, composition, rhythm, movement.  It’s all there in nature and all here in Florida, Newfoundland and Labrador, Ontario and then my next location . The rugged and varied landscapes offer and inspire an unlimited pallette.

Expressionism/Impressionism...the painter has the power to express his feelings of the subject matter without the scene dictating what is painted.  We paint without knowing what the painting will look like in the end.    It’s freedom and drawing and painting combined.  It’s a bit terrifying looking at a blank canvas, but you rely on your level of skill and just paint what you feel and not necessarily only what you see.  Art is about taking chances and letting go.  We are not photographers.  My best paintings are when I am totally free, loose and feeling rhythm and movement, without control. 

All artists must learn their craft either from others or are self taught.  We all to some degree or other have our anxious moments while staring at a blank canvas.  Will our heart and soul and whatever we see in our minds translate from a multi-dimensional world into a flat surface?  We agonize at what point we end the painting.  Artists know and feel when creativity is working or not.  What I like regardless of my experience, education and training may not be what you like. It is totally subjective.  

But art is not about the artist.  It is about you...what you like.  What moves you, and what you want to look at and enjoy is what’s important.  The subject matter is infinite.  Surround yourself with art that is you....... enjoy.
